It can be used as a Ketal reagent for the preparation of other ketones, such as intermediates for the preparation of drugs such as benzophenone and tacrolimus. Benzophenone dimethyl acetal can be prepared by reacting Benzophenone with methanol under acidic conditions. The reaction conditions require the presence of an acid catalyst, such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid.
